A wet plate collodion portrait is more than a photograph—it is a carefully crafted experience.
Each session takes place in my studio, where we work together at a slower pace than modern photography allows. This unhurried process creates the time and space to build a genuine connection before the portrait is made.
Your image is created entirely by hand using the nineteenth-century wet plate collodion process. Every plate is produced individually through a sequence of manual steps that have remained virtually unchanged since the 1850s. During the session, you will witness the entire process, from coating the plate to development in the darkroom.
Because each plate is handmade, no two portraits are ever identical. Small variations are an intrinsic part of the process and contribute to the character and authenticity of the final image.
A portrait session typically lasts between 1½ and 2 hours. You will leave not only with a unique handcrafted portrait, but also with the experience of witnessing one of photography's earliest and most fascinating processes brought to life.
